Illinois Ends Period of Remote Registration for Sports Betting

Governor Pritzker

July 28th 2020

Illinois launched its endeavor into online sports wagering just months ago. Up until this week, a person could register online. But that has changed.

Now, a  person must show up to an approved location to register for his or her betting account. This all came about from Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s new executive order which is now hampering online sports betting.

Some critics are calling this politics as usual. Others think it may be a reaction to developing situations that have occurred since sports betting became legal. For instance, DraftKings circumvented rules meant to keep out online-only platforms like theirs by buying into a land-based casino.

Online sports betting registration ended Sunday night. If you live in Illinois and want to bet sports you must show up to an approved location and sign up in person.
