Legislation has been forth this week in the state of Rhode Island that would allow the residents to sign up, deposit and begin wagering online. Currently the law requires bettors to register in-person at one of the Twin River Casino locations. Bill H 8097 looks to remove this roadblock.

Rhode Island’s sports betting returns have been less than desirable since they legalized sports betting in 2018. Many believe its because of the stringent rules that are in place. People just don’t want to find the location, then show up there in person to register.

This bill will look to get going before the start of football, and resumption of MLB baseball and NBA basketball later this month.

The bill was put forth by Reps. Nicholas Mattiello and Marvin Abney and looks to simply alter the existing language of the legislation quite minutely.

Rhode Island betting is done through the sate but is backed and managed by third party companies.
